✨ 3 Must-Read Thrillers! ✨

Hey, lovelies. Today’s post is about three thriller/horror books I believe will give you all the chills. Last year I read more thrillers than romances and let me tell you while reading these books I was literally terrified. I hope you’ll like my picks and enjoy them as much as I did. I won't write my reviews for these books in this post, however, I will link the post where I reviewed them on my bookstagram if you ever want to check them.

1) Home Before Dark by Riley Sager

Genres: Psychological thriller & Suspense

Pages: 397

Date Published: June 30, 2020

Publisher: Dutton

Average Rating: 4.1/5

Synopsis:

What was it like? Living in that house.

Maggie Holt is used to such questions. Twenty-five years ago, she and her parents, Ewan and Jess, moved into Baneberry Hall, a rambling Victorian estate in the Vermont woods. They spent three weeks there before fleeing in the dead of night, an ordeal Ewan later recounted in a nonfiction book called House of Horrors. His tale of ghostly happenings and encounters with malevolent spirits became a worldwide phenomenon, rivaling The Amityville Horror in popularity—and skepticism.

Today, Maggie is a restorer of old homes and too young to remember any of the events mentioned in her father’s book. But she also doesn’t believe a word of it. Ghosts, after all, don’t exist. When Maggie inherits Baneberry Hall after her father’s death, she returns to renovate the place to prepare it for sale. But her homecoming is anything but warm. People from the past, chronicled in House of Horrors, lurk in the shadows. And locals aren’t thrilled that their small town has been made infamous thanks to Maggie’s father. Even more unnerving is Baneberry Hall itself—a place filled with relics from another era that hint at a history of dark deeds. As Maggie experiences strange occurrences straight out of her father’s book, she starts to believe that what he wrote was more fact than fiction.

Brief review:

I'm doing this brief review because I don't have an actual post where I reviewed it.

This was the first book I read by this author, as well as my first time reading a thriller, and OMG this book right here made me fall in love with Riley Sager's books and the thriller genre. This book is so addictive and the story is so well written that you will not want to put it down until you have finished it, so many twists and turns, this book is spell-binding. I would recommend everyone to read it and I guarantee you even if you are not a thriller fan, this book might change that.

2) Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Genres: Historical fiction & Horror fiction

Pages: 301

Date Published: June 30, 2020

Publisher: Del Rey

Average Rating: 3.7/5

Synopsis:

After receiving a frantic letter from her newlywed cousin begging for someone to save her from a mysterious doom, Noemí Taboada heads to High Place, a distant house in the Mexican countryside. She’s not sure what she will find - her cousin’s husband, a handsome Englishman, is a stranger, and Noemí knows little about the region.

Noemí is also an unlikely rescuer: She’s a glamorous debutante, and her chic gowns and perfect red lipstick are more suited for cocktail parties than amateur sleuthing. But she’s also tough and smart, with an indomitable will, and she is not afraid: not of her cousin’s new husband, who is both menacing and alluring; not of his father, the ancient patriarch who seems to be fascinated by Noemí; and not even of the house itself, which begins to invade Noemi’s dreams with visions of blood and doom.

Her only ally in this inhospitable abode is the family’s youngest son. Shy and gentle, he seems to want to help Noemí but might also be hiding dark knowledge of his family’s past. For there are many secrets behind the walls of High Place. The family’s once colossal wealth and faded mining empire kept them from prying eyes, but as Noemí digs deeper she unearths stories of violence and madness.

And Noemí, mesmerized by the terrifying yet seductive world of High Place, may soon find it impossible to ever leave this enigmatic house behind.

PS: This book is currently in development as a Hulu series. How cool is that? I am beyond excited to see how it'll turn out.

3) Verity by Colleen Hoover

Genres: Thriller & Romance novel

Pages: 324

Date Published: December 7, 2018

Publisher: Hoover Ink, Inc.

Average Rating: 4.3/5

Synopsis:

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.
